“Gratitude is the memory of the heart.” This was one of the quotes mentioned by Very Rev. Fr. Romulo Rodriguez, O.P. J.C.D., the former Regent of the College of Tourism and Hospitality Management (CTHM), in his inspirational message given during the first CTHM Grand Alumni Homecoming. Held last June 16 at the Grand Ballroom of the Thomasian Alumni Center, the homecoming is indeed full of vibrant alumni, exciting entertainment and good memories.
The former college mentors, classmates and friends also kept the alumni returning and showing their appreciation to their alma mater, the University of Santo Tomas.
One of the cornerstones and the current Dean of CTHM, Asst. Prof. Maria Cecilia A. Tio-Cuison, delivered a key message that focused on the significant contributions that the alumni have given and could be given back to the programs and activities of the college.
Dean Tio-Cusion also introduced the administrators and academic officials of the college and acknowledged the efforts of the interim officers and board of directors of the UST CTHM Alumni Association Inc. who made the event possible.
Approximately 230 graduates were present in the reunion—including the silver and pearl jubilarians from batches 1988 and 1993. They were given recognition and awarded with special medals by Dean Tio-Cuison and the Office of Alumni Relations Officer-in-Charge, Asst. Prof. Fredeswindo R. Medina.
It was a fun-filled event that was hosted by Hospitality and Restaurant Management alumni and television personalities John “Sweet” Lapus and Dang Cruz.
As a symbol of their sincere gratitude, the alumni recognized their former mentors, who molded them and greatly helped them in their respective careers, during the homecoming.
Aside from the heartfelt reunions, the whole night was also highlighted by a live band entertainment and generous raffle prizes.
